- I am not looking to spend alot... Is Total Floor Covering expensive?
We have flooring across the price spectrum. The most important way for you to get the right price and right quality, is for you to tell us exactly what you want. We can get you that inexpensive remnant for the basement or we can design the most exquisite grand room you have ever seen.
- There are a lot of flooring stores... why should I buy fromTotal Floor Covering?

From start to finsh we aim to have superior customer service. Realistically, a problem could happen for anyone, but the difference is how a we handle it. WE ARE NOT SATISFIED UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED.
- How can I protect my new floor?
For hard surface products like wood, laminate, or vinyl we strongly recommend using walk-off mats in doorways and protective pads on the bottom of your table and chairs. Total Floor Covering carries many sizes and styles of floor protectors as well as discontinued carpet samples that work great as floor mats. It is also important to never drag anything across the floor such as an oven or refrigerator. Your new floor will give you long lasting beauty if you use a little common sense and perform regular maintenence.
- What should I use to clean my floor?
Total Floor Covering has a full line of cleaners for all surfaces. It is important to use the manufacturer's cleaner in order to keep your warranty valid and also because these cleaners are made specifically for your floor. For vinyl floors, sweeping often and using a vinyl floor cleaner will help keep your floor looking new. Some floor cleaners you find in most retail stores contain chemicals that will dull your floor.
For laminate floors, sweep often using a dry mop or broom. For tough spots we recommend using a spot cleaner which we sell here at our store.
Wood floors require only dry mopping or sweeping often. For tough spots we recommend using a spot cleaner which we sell here at our store. NEVER use water to wash your wood floor.
Carpet care includes vacuuming and professional cleaning. Vacuum high traffic lanes daily, medium to high traffic areas twice weekly, and the entire house at least once a week. In order for your warranty to remain valid, carpet manufacturers require a professional, water-extracted cleaning every 12-18 months. Contact Total Floor Covering with any questions. We are here to help.
- What types of yarns are available?
Most carpet today is made of these four fibers: nylon, polyester, polypropylene or wool. Nylon is the most common fiber because of its durability, resiliency and soil resistance. Polyester is a soft fiber, usually made from recycled plastics, that provides great color clarity. It is stain and fade resistant and less expensive than nylon. Polypropylene, also known as olefin, is popular due to its stain, fade and moisture resistance as well as its low cost. Wool, the original carpet fiber, is more expensive and less stain-resistant than the newer synthetics, however the beauty and durability of wool makes it a desirable choice.
- What types of carpet are available?
There are typically three types of tufted carpet: cut pile, loop pile, and cut and loop pile. In a cut pile style, the carpet loops have been cut to create individual tips. Examples of this style include plushes and textured saxonies. In a loop pile style, the carpet loops are not cut or sheared. Instead, the intact loops form the surface of the carpet. Examples include multi-level loops and berbers. In a cut and loop pile style you will see a combination of cut pile and loop pile. This type of carpet can have very distinct patterns and are great in formal areas. Advantages of each: Cut pile styles are extremely versatile, making them suitable for virtually any area of the house; some of the textured carpets will be flecked or speckled with random strands of color which helps hide everyday use. Loop pile carpets are very durable, making them ideal for high-traffic areas. Cut and loop styles come in multi-colorations and random patterns and have excellent soil-hiding properties
When selecting a cut pile carpet, you may want to look at the twist, which refers to the number of times the fiber is twisted together in each individual carpet yarn. The tighter the twist, the more durable the carpet will be. For loop pile styles, the measure of quality is the tuft bind, which refers to the relative strength of the attachment of yarn loops to the carpet backing. Higher quality carpets have a denser tuft bind.
